KnowYourBlock (“we”, “us”) operates the website at knowyourblock.au. This page explains what information we collect and how it is used. We aim to collect as little personal information as possible.

Information we collect

You can use KnowYourBlock without creating an account or providing personal details. When you search for an address or suburb, that query is sent to our server to return a result; we do not use it to identify you. If you email us, we receive the contents of your message and your email address so we can reply.

Analytics

We use a few analytics tools to understand aggregate traffic and performance — for example, how many people visit a page and how fast it loads:

• Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights — cookieless, aggregate visit and performance data.
• Google Analytics — helps us understand how visitors find and use the site. Google may set cookies; you can opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Our own first-party analytics — we record basic, aggregate usage in our own system (which pages are viewed and an approximate country) so we can count visits accurately. This does not store your IP address and does not personally identify you.

This data is aggregated and used to improve the site; we do not use it to identify individual visitors.

Advertising and cookies

We may display advertising through Google AdSense to help keep KnowYourBlock free. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

• Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. Doing so will not stop you from using KnowYourBlock.

Affiliate links and referrals

Some outbound links on KnowYourBlock — for example to insurance or mortgage-broker partners — may be affiliate or referral links. If you click one and take up a product, we may earn a commission or referral fee at no additional cost to you. This helps keep the site free.

These commercial arrangements never change the information we show. Our flood, bushfire, zoning, school, crime and development data comes from the public government sources described above, and no partner can pay to alter a property’s result or ranking.

Property and address data

The address, suburb, school, crime and hazard data shown on the site comes from publicly available government and open-data sources. It is general information about places, not about people, and is provided on an indicative-only basis.

Your rights

We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you would like us to access or delete any personal information you have sent us (such as an email enquiry), contact us and we will action it.
